As described in her History, Mneme looks rather nice, especially being a vampire. Though unearthly pale, this is attractive in vampires, and her cold-looking, purple-ish lips enhance this effect, which is mostly due to her being near-frozen at the time of changing species. What's more, her eyes are heavily encircled in black, nearly up to her eyebrows, so that to humans she looks as if she goes through an eyeshadow compact a week, when it is actually soot from a chimney. This soot also appears in her shoulder-length hair, so that the majority of it is black except for a very thick streaks of red, her natural colour. She also has patches of soot on her hands, appearing as if she has been smudging charcoal without washing her hands. The last and most significant appearance of the soot is on her back, right between her shoulder blades - three circles and a small line underneath, the form of the clubs suite out of a playing card game, which formed all by itself around a smaller, dark, reddish-brown splotch which will be explained later on. Her eyes as a human were icey blue, but now have a slight topaz-green tint to them since being a vampire. Sometimes they appear more green, elsewise more blue, but her pupils are always ringed with topaz unless she is hungry, in which case they are as red as her hair.
Personality;
By the general public, Mneme is often thought to be rather batty. Mostly, this is due simply to her physical appearance combined with her attire, which consists of ratty-looking, torn, ancient dresses that she would have worn as a human. She bought them when she finally had her mind back again after becoming a vampire, and hasn't bought much of anything else since. Her most modern article is a very fashionable dress from 1897, which was eleventy-one years ago. She actually has passable hygiene, as vampires appear the same from the moment they are changed - she only looks crummy, because of her tussled hair and the bloody conspicuous dresses. Mneme has never cared much about blending in as a vampire, and because she is also conspicuously supersticious, most people think she's simply mad. Mneme loves this, because back in the day, she would have been at the very least treated badly and sent away. Mostly likely nearly killed. However, nowadays people just shake their heads, shuffle across the street, and leave her alone.
Mneme believes strongly about all kinds of this like fate, multiple gods (mostly an odd mixture of Ancient Greek and a little Egyptian), and the evils of walking underneath a ladder or spilling salt. Mostly she is thought to be a bit of a witch - something she also finds amusing, as she would have been burned for it only a few centuries ago. But she will act highly offended if any human asks (assuming that others would know her, and only be kidding around). Mneme enjoys having fun with the whole batty-witch-unhygenic thing, but she is actually very wise in some aspects. First of all, she has lived just over three centuries, so she has had a ton of experience in general subjects, and recently (in the last few decades) graduated from three universities. She doesn't like to let people know just how smart she is, or to answer questions bluntly - she likes to play around with people's minds a little, as our beloved Yoda did.
Mostly, she tries to act playful and cunning and confident, but really has a lot of problems of her own. Living for centuries has given her a taste of immortality, so she has an idea of what awaits her in the vast realm of forever. And she isn't sure if she likes it much so far. In any case, she tries to make a use of herself, by influencing people, and generally making their lives better. The easiest way to do this is through the Royal Flush coven, who benefits the local supernaturals. Mneme is actually quite fascinated by werewolves (the one subject she isn't too sure about), and loves to talk with them if they let her (which doesn't exactly happen a lot). Knowing that she can use immortality to make a difference helps her to accept it. However, there is still the matter of memories. These haunt her, and can sneak up at any moment by any creature. She has learned to control her mind more, to keep her thoughts away from others, but sometimes it just happens that she gets a flashback to an old man's childhood, just as he crosses the street to the side she's on. When actually having a conversation, she remembers to put her guard up, but simply walking or doing a mindless task often makes her forget, for once. Mneme never forgets anything, so if she comes across a bad memory, it will stay with her for eternity. What a headache.
History;
As a human, Mneme looked fairly similiar to her vampire form. She had brilliant, dark-ish red hair, pretty much the same shade as blood. Her skin was pale, her figure curved, and her eyes large - in short, she looked nice. This got her into a bit of trouble with her beau, a jealous temperamental-type, who thought she was seeing someone else. One evening, while she was sweeping out the chimney and covered in soot, he snuck up behind her and literally stabbed her in the back before throwing her out into the cold. Since it was winter, the snow got rid of most of the soot on her skin and some on her hair, causing her to become paler and to show large streaks of her natural red hair colour. Her lips turned a pale purple, and her eyes remained sooty. Meanwhile, she wasn't actually dead as her beau had hoped - a vampire smelt her blood, and he came and drank it while she still lived. He didn't kill her either, and being new at the whole vampire thing, figured she would die soon anyway - besides, somebody down the street had just nearly cut off their finger while chopping carrots and he wanted their fresh blood. So poor Mneme was left there in pain for three days, before finally waking up as a vampire. Around the mark of a stab-wound between her shoulder blades were three splotches of soot, with a little mark beneath, which looked like the clubs from a card deck.
Unlike most vampires, Mneme could remember a lot of her human life, including the exact ways in which she had nearly died, and how she had become immortal. She researched and learned all that a vampire should know, and became pretty powerful, in a bookish sort of way. Eventually, she began to meet other sorts of vampires, some who drank from humans, others who were so called 'vegetarians'. Though she listened to what they had to say and even considered altering her choice of food, she never really liked the idea of quitting humans. The thing that almost made her change her mind was remembering how it felt to be human, and how it felt to change her entire species; and even how it felt to feed off of her former species. She wasn't happy about bringing this on others, and tried not to actually change her victims - death was better. Clean, neat, and more traditional in a way. Animals kill other animals - that's the way of nature, and changing something so drastically as she had been changed was just unnatural. That she would not do to another creature unless they deserved it. However, she did not grudge the vampire who had bit her - he had just been stupid, maybe for quite some time, or maybe just because he was very hungry. Mneme knew what that was like.
So, like many of her kind, Mneme wandered for years, sometimes staying with certain people, other times keeping to herself. You can while away eternity like that, but it doesn't always make for interesting role-play. She did end up meeting some vampires who were rather interseting indeed, not to mention powerful like herself. Victoria and Leroy also had a kind of charm about them that Mneme liked despite herself. Or maybe destiny had made her prejudiced towards them. In any case, she fell in with them in a small town called Lamdon, and since then has seen no reason to part company with them, even though she had never stayed more than two months in one place since becoming a vampire. This says quite a lot about her friendship with the others of the Royal Flush. This coven was developed firstly to protect the existence of supernatural creatures in Lamdon, and secondly to keep the general peace of these creatures - without informing their unaware neighbours, humans.
And of course, the fact that they all mysteriously have playing-card suite markings, seems to indicate that some fate was involved in bringing them together in Lamdon ...
