Lilly Anderson looked at her watch for the fifteenth time. She was pissed off. Chogan, her assigned partner for the big English project, and the one person she least of all wanted to spend time with, was over half an hour late for their study “Date”. “He’s doing this on purpose!” she growled to herself, “He knows it’ll annoy the crap out of me!” she groaned loudly and a couple of people sitting near by reading, turned their heads and looked at her briefly and then stuck their noses back into the books. “Alright,” she thought, “If he can’t be here on time, I’m gonna have to choose the Person which we’ll do the whole project about. Hmmm. Jane Austin maybe. I’m guessing the author of complicated love novels is just what he likes!” she smiled sarcastically and went to the counter to check out the books they would need to get started. As she carried a stack of Jane Austin books and biographies back to the table, she smiled to her self. “Chogan Velasquez, it’s payback time.” Then she sat down, began reading and taking notes.

Chogan strutted down the street, a smug smile playing on his face. Studying was simply impossible without some kind of fun. So, of course, he was deliberately too late for the first study appointment where he was supposed to meet Lily Anderson, the leading snob in his English class, at precisely 4:00 pm. He thought he had done quite a good job, being now almost 40 minutes too late. What a pleasure it would be to see Lily again. He turned down the footpath to the small library, whistling carelessly. He spotted Lily reading through one of the windows, and the smug smile returned to his face. He picked up a rock from the ground, and threw it at the window, waving violently.

When the small pebble hit the window, resulting in a little 'bonk', Lilly knew exactly who was standing outside the window. She reluctantly looked up, clenching her teeth so hard, that she was afraid they were going to break. And true enough, outside the big window, was Chogan. He was waving at her with a smug smile. Eventhough she knew she would get her revenge soon enough, this still ticked her off enormously. As she looked at him, Lilly swallowed the urge to call him a sertain name, and show him a sertain finger. For some reasom it bugged her that he did not like her, like all the other boys did. all the other people, in general. Even though Lilly disliked Chogan because he was wierd, and isolated from the world, it was his hate for her that made her angry and uncomfortable. She had discovered a constant need to have people like her. And she did not like that. Lilly shot Chogan a killing glance through the window and mouthed the word "Hurry!"

Chogan laughed out loud at the expression on Lily's face, then winked at her only to tick her off just a little bit more. He jogged to the entrance, and stepped in. Lily wasn't sitting far away from the door, so he noticed her sitting there reading instantly. God, she was beautiful. Ugh! What a disturbing thought, just like the ones in school. For goodness' sake--he hated her! Or disliked her a very great deal, anyway. He concentrated really hard, and managed to place the bad thoughts in the back of his mind. "What's up?" His greeting was only two seconds late. He wasn't smiling. "You should've seen your face," he said while sitting down across from her, "it was priceless." The fresh memory of her angry glare made his mouth pull up in the corners just a bit.

"Hello, you Jackass!" Lilly replied to Chogans greeting. She couldn't help noticing that he actually looked pretty good in his dark hoodie and warnout jeans, and she ignored the fact that she actually was a iny bit attracted to him. If she had seen him on the sreet or in town (not known him) he was the kind of guy that she would pass for cute, or even hot. "Sooo," she said, "Since you weren't here in time, i took the honer of picking a subject..." she paused for a moment. As she was talking the minor feelings of attraction she had felt before, grew stronger, and she suddenly felt the urge to be close to him...touch him... kiss him...? "Impsible!" she told her self angrily. "Now way in hell am i going to fall for Chogans look. no freaking way!" she looked away from him. "So, anyway, our subject now officially is Jane Austin. I mailed it to Mr. Scott and everything." she dared to look a him again now feeling the satisfaction of revenge. How would he react?

"Sooo. Since you weren't here in time, I took the honor of picking a subject," said Lilly. Chogan stared out the window, doing his very best to look (and sound, apparently) bored to death whenever she was speaking. "Hey hey hey, I was here on time," Chogan replied, turning his head to frown at her, "so, either you misunderstood what we planned, or your watch is dead, or you got here way too early for no particular reason. I was here on time--always am." He smirked at her. "So, anyway, our subject now officially is Jane Austin. I mailed it to Mr. Scott and everything," Lilly told Chogan. He wasn't surprised that she didn't start arguing with him. It was just so her. "Jane Austin? Hmm..." he pretended to think about it for a while, although he knew that even if he wanted to change the subject she had chosen, it wasn't going to happen. "Whatever." He shrugged apathetically.

Lilly was a bit dissapointed by the way he reacted, but she let it go. two wrongs don't make a right anyway. she told herself, even though she knew she would never be able to live after that saying. She loved revenge way to much. "Alright, let's get sarted. " she said and handed him the assignment sheet, and a biography of Jane Austin." Then she said, "And let's try, not to let our..." she paused looking for the word, "Personal squabbles, get in the way, of our project okay. Grades meen a lot to me. Okay?" She waited for his anwer than said. "Jane Austin is actually quite an interesting person, you know."

"Let's try not to let our... personal squabbles get in the way of our project, okay? Grades mean a lot to me," Lilly said, and Chogan thought he heard a whole new emotion in her voice... anxiety? He didn't care. Or did he? No, he didn't, he just wanted to make this project a living hell for Lilly. Right? He was confused, and no-one but Lilly had ever been able to do that to him. Usually, he was good at keeping his head clear, but this girl did stuff to him that he couldn't explain. And to be honest, it annoyed him a bit... no, in fact it annoyed the crap out of him. Stop messing with my head, he thought. "Grades mean a lot to you? Ha! Of course. Sad thing you're in group with me, huh?" No, he wasn't going to screw this up for her, he knew the limit. But scaring her was absolutely harmless. He grunted, and suddenly he was all sulky and huffish. He ignored Lilly's Jane Austin praise; he couldn't see how he could use her opinion. Stupid, and yet beautiful blonde messing with my head. Ugh. "I'm not going to read this, -" he made a gesture to the big, fat biography on the table in front of him, "- am I?" He eyed her suspiciously. There was no way that she could make a read one single page in that book. It looked so boring.

"I'm not going to read this, -" Chogan said with an almost disgusted look on his face, "Am I?" Lilly looked at him irritated why did he have to complain about every sigle thing? When you were in a group together, you had to share the work equally. no matter how much they hated eachother. And Lilly did hate Chogan. Didn't she? Urrg! Why did he have to complicate everything by looking so dang good! She hated him even more for that. "Yes you are going to read this. I've already started another biograph and Pride and Prejustice. So get cracking!" Lilly said the laste sentence in a false cheerful tone.

Chogan glared at her for a long minute, then groaned out loud, and flipped the book open. He rested his head in his palm, riffling over the pages of the book absentmindedly, only catching the headlines of each chapter. He was surely going to die if he read this book, he just knew it. Boredom would kill him. And then maybe Lilly would feel awfully bad about it... no, wait, she was too coldhearted for that. Miss Leading Snob of Lamdon High. The worst of ‘em all, in Chogan’s opinion... sometimes, anyway. No, he wasn’t going to dwell in her beauty again. He then started reading the book from the beginning. “Jane Austin: A Fascinating Rolemodel” the title read. Boring, he thought, adding a dramatic sigh.

About an hour of silent reading only interupted by the sounds of turning pages and Lilly typing notes on her laptop, went by. Then Lilly regetantly had to break the lovly silence between them. She did not want to provoke his annoying oppinions and complaining. "So, in the movie about Becoming Jane, about herself, she finds out that the guy has named her daughter after her. Does your book metion anything about that?" Lilly asked thoughtfully. Becoming Jane was one of her favorite movies. It turned out that her life had been almost as interesting as any of her novels. she was so true and heartfelt. Pure. She liked that. She pulled herself back to reality. She was sitting at a library table, with a boy who she kept telling herself she hated. But did she really? That was something dark and mysterious about him, something she couldn't really put her finger on, something she liked. It draw her towards him. She thought about what Jane Austin would have done in this situation. She would probably have found out if she liked him or not and then found out if he liked her. That was what she would do now...

Chogan looked up, obviously annoyed. "Wow, that woman sure has a lot of hidden talents, huh? Acting. No, I haven't gotten to the chapter of her filmography," he said sarcastically. "And if you want this assignment to end successfully, you should let me concentrate on reading before my eyelids drop closed and I fall asleep for the rest of this week. It could happen anytime, anywhere. He unwillingly removed his glowering gaze from Lilly, and continued reading. "It's so hot in here," he muttered quietly, pulling his dark marine-coloured hoodie off. The white t-shirt he was wearing now darkened his already tan native American skin. The excerpt from one of Austen's original novels he was reading was written in such an old-fashioned lingo he did not understand. Unconsciously, he had stopped reading, and caught himself staring--almost... fascinated?--at the Beauty across from him. He blinked a few times, shook his head, pinched himself in the arm, and reminded himself that he actually hated her, 'cause she was such a bitching nightmare. Although he now had forgotten exactly when she had been like that. Focus! he told himself, and buried his nose in the biography again. About 10 minutes later, he interrupted the silence again, frowning. "Um, not that I want to shatter the perfect image you have of Jane Austen in your head, Lilly, but she seems like a pretty shallow person, according to all these sayings from her that have eventually become famous. I mean, are we actually gonna write about a dead money-obsessed woman who apparently used to fight for her own gender's rights? Who wrote novels that no living person could possibly understand anything of? And, worst of all, a famous lady that is not hot or beautiful? It's just that I'm starting to doubt she has any good sides. Since she's so famous you'd think she was good at reading, but actually, no-one can tell 'cause no-one understands her books! She could be a fake. Just sayin'." He shrugged apologetically.

Lilly looked up when Chogan talked to her. Her heart stuttered for a moment when he said her name. it was the first time she had used her name and not called her 'spoiled blonde' or anything. But her thrill quickly went away, as she lisented to what he actually was saying. when he was done she squinted at him with a ‘really? You’re gonna do this again’ Then she sighed and said. Chogan, Jane Austen is not a fake. And she’s not shallow either, you are. Plenty of people have read her books and thought them deep and interesting. They were even made into movies. And maybe you didn’t realize this before but Jane Austen lived in the 1700’s so no she wasn’t in a movie. The was just recently made a movie about her life. “ lilly paused her speech. And drew a long breath. “Anyway even if we wanted to switch it’s too late. So sorry. Keep reading” she gave him a small sarcastic smile. “I have to go soon, what do you want me to at home, for tomorrow?”

Chogan yawned loudly, and pretended he wasn't listening. It was almost unbelievable how fun it was to tease Lilly--she got so mad everytime! "Well, plenty of people obviously must've been totally crazed. Or maybe there was some kind of mental disease by the time she lived," he suggested, an angry hint to his voice. "Oh, well, if she wasn't in a movie, then, she must've had no talents at all. How can a person below the average become well-known all over the world?" A frustrated sigh escaped his mouth, but his frustration hadn't anything to do with stupid Jane Austen. It was this feeling that kept bugging him, an intense longing to hold Lilly in his arms, to protect her. The feeling was so strong that he was having a hard time sitting still. UGH! He shook his head, and started reading again for two reasons. One, in an attempt to make the longing go away, and two, because Lilly told him to. Ten silent minutes went by, and Chogan had already forgotten all about the yearning he had felt before when Lilly spoke. "I have to go soon," she said, "what do you want me to do at home for tomorrow?" Chogan stared at her for a long time, his face emotionless. Right until he burst into laughter. "You...want...me...to coordinate...our homework?" Each word was said between his uncontrollable guffaws. This was hilarious!

Lilly watched Chogan laugh. It both annoyed her and made her feel strangely happy. She slammed her teeth together and said, “I did. Now I don’t! I’ll just read the next chapter in my book and take some notes. You do the same okay?” she said her leader instinct kicking in. she knew it wasn’t likely that Chogan would do it but, she felt that there here was more chance that he would do it if he knew he was supposed to that if he didn’t know what to do. “we’ll have time to work on this tomorrow in English, and…” she took off the cap of her pen, reached out for Chogans hand and began to write down digits. “…there. That’s my cell phone number. If there’s something you…” she paused “…Want me to do, then call, or text.” She closed her book and stowed it away into her bag. Then she stood up. “One more thing Velazque,” she gave him a tiny smile. “Never, think I’m just a dumb blonde.” With that she strode out of the library.
