River saw Lukas's teeth, and realized she may be, in fact, playing Russian Roulette with the devil. She knew how dangerous they were, but as she thought about it some more, she didn't think Lukas was like the rest of them.
"I'm not so sure that would be a good idea. Plus, doesn't it hurt to change?" River knew she could handle one stage then another, but the shifting? She wasn't so sure about that.

"Hurt? It...did, I guess, when it began, but now its just easy...There is pain, but you can just ignore it." He began walking to some point to his left, just walking, and said, "Are you headed anywhere? What brings you out into the street at this time of night?" He glanced at her side-on, smiling. "Smart girl like you would know how dangerous dark streets like this are,"
(Short reply! xD It's a reply, though, I'm sorry it's been such a long time ^^)

Haha. It's okay. I will make up for both of us and our small posts.
River did not know how to answer Lukas' question. She did not want to lie to him, but she did not want to tell him that she was actually beginning to look for a place to sleep. She did not want to go to the library again in fear that they would get suspicious, and the school...she did not really trust that place after hours.
Finally when she answered him, she could hear herself shaking in her voice, "I...uh...I...I was actually looking for a place to...," she did plan on telling him, but she just could not finish her sentence. She never really could when people asked her that question, and it only got worse because she liked Lukas. Though she was still a little nervous around him, she liked him. Plus he was also the nicest person, er...werewolf, she has met in Lamdon so far.
Why not? It's not like he will speak to me again, anyway. It may be a small town, but if you wanted to avoid someone, sometimes it could be like a whole ocean was separating us, River thought before she took a deep breath, and answered his question, with as much confidence as she could master at the moment--which was not much. "I was looking for a place to sleep." After about thirty seconds, she added as almost an afterthought, "I know, that's why I carry this," and a few more you have not seen yet she wanted to add as she lifted up the dagger she was holding protectively to her before. "I could ask you the same thing could I not? You may be of one of the species I must be wary about, you do not seem to harmful. Then again, I have not seen you angry. Nor do I want to."

Lukas thought about her answer, and it was a few moments before he replied. "A place to sleep?" He was considering asking her about it in more detail - didn't she live around here? Why didn't she have a place to stay? He didn't, though - perhaps she wouldn't want to tell him. She did sound pretty nervous.
"I know how dangerous it is around here, and I can protect myself. Looks like you could too..." He didn't sound like he was serious, though, and he wasn't. He gestured at her dagger. "You might be able to defend yourself against humans who wish to attack you, but something like vampires? I doubt it," He smiled slightly. "I'm with you tonight though, so you'll certainly be safe. Hey, how bout you just come round to the reservation? You could stay at my place if you've got nowhere else to go."

River was surprised that Lukas even suggested letting her stay at his place. Unfortunately that surprise showed on her face, and the minute she realized that, her face flushed.
She looked down at her feet, kicking at the pebbles at her feet. She was still sure about Lukas because she just met him, but he didn't set off any alarms that she relied on so heavily anymore. She looked back up at Lukas, and said, "Okay, I will," as she nodded.[/size] Sorry, again. I don't mean for it to be so short again.
