"Oh, great," River grumbled to herself as she realized that she was going in circles. Again. Which meant something was on her mind that she didn't want there. As she stopped, which happened to be at the corner of a street, she leaned onto the building closest to her, and just stared up at the sky. The stars were twinkling with brilliance and life, and she hated them for it. "They won't be mad at parents for bailing, when it was a stupid drunks fault for being a dumb ass and driving," she said to herself. She was thinking back to her fifth grade graduation when all she wanted was her family again, and because of her wanting, it caused them their lives.
Why did she keep beating herself up over it? She couldn't control it, and she couldn't change anything. Except, for her longing for her family back together for one day.
River started walking again, this time looking for an actually destination this time. She didn't know where she was sleeping tonight, whether is was the library again, or asking someone if they had a place she could sleep. Most of the times though, with her dark hair and pale skin, they would be skeptical about letting her in, and more times they would say no, than saying yes. They would think that she was something else. Maybe I would belong to something if I was a vampire, River thought angrily. She tried to leave out the part where she walked in on when a vampire was feeding, and she actually convinced that particular person--er, vampire--not to kill there "prey."
As she turned another corner, she saw someone in the shadows, and immediately reached for her little dagger she learned to carry around in this town. From what she saw, it was a male, though she couldn't quite make out if it was human. They all looked alike, how could she know?

Lukas had been wandering around, really at a loss for what to do. His werewolf friends had been annoying him, not about anything in particular, but just being annoying. He had no one else to do anything with, except perhaps that vampire he'd met - Jayden - but he didn't know where she was, anyway.
He didn't feel like doing anything. He felt like...giving up. He had misplaced the love of his life, again, if that were possible, he had been making friends with random vampires, and he was avoiding his friends. There was really nothing to do anymore.
As he walked out of the shadow of a nearby building, he looked up to see a human...yes, most definitly a human, although they looked slightly vampiric. Behind them was the rest of the street, which was completely empty except for them. Above them both the stars twinkled in the dark sky. He saw the girl reaching for something - some kind of weapon, probably - and he held his hands out, showing that he didn't plan to harm her.
"I'm not going to hurt you," he said.

River was scarred. Though the one coming towards her did have a nice and kind face, she did not quite trust him to let her guard down even the slightest bit. He was still a stranger to her, and she's had too many encounters who seem nice, but were indeed not.
When he spoke, he had a kind voice, one that couldn't be faked. Yes, he was annoyed, she could tell that much from just looking at him, but when she listened to those six words, she knew that he was telling the truth, she wasn't going to hurt her.
She didn't take her hold off of her dagger, though, as she said, "How do I know you won't hurt me?" with a voice that if you weren't paying close attention to her, you wouldn't be able to hear the faint shakiness in River's voice. Her instincts were telling her that she should release her dagger, but she figured it wouldn't hurt if she kept her defenses up a little longer.

Lukas watched the girl with curiousity. She seemed afraid of him, for some unknown reason. Humans did have that carefullness about them, and most humans got scared at the sight of a werewolf in human form, even if they didn't know why. But this girl...she must've had some sort of bad experience, for her to be acting like that.
Even though she seemed to have believed him, she didn't relax; Lukas could see that. This amused him. She reminded him of a cat he once knew, when he was younger. It didn't like him very much, and even though they both knew he wasn't going to hurt it, the cat still refused to relax, and never let him pat it. Even though he was younger when he knew that cat, it probably could tell that he was something unnatural. A werewolf. Most humans had similar instincts.
Instincts, and the fact that he was really tall and big.
When she asked a question, it took him a moment to think about the answer. What would be the proof? He could easily hurt her whenever, that's for sure. So he stretched his arms out slowly, and said "You could stab me right now with that dagger of yours." He couldn't see the dagger, of course, but he knew quite well it was there. What else would she be holding? A lot, actually. He almost back away - he'd once had a bad experience with pepper spray - but he couldn't, he had to stay still, just to prove a point.
A though occured to Lukas - what if she did stab him with a dagger? It wouldn't work. His skin was too tough, and unless she wasn't as frail as she seemed (to him, at least), the dagger wouldn't do anything at all, and she'd be freaked out and run away screaming. He lowered his arms at this thought, watching her carefully.

"Fine. I believe you, although I probably shouldn't." She put the dagger away regretfully, though she knew it was a good idea to do it anyway.
River walked over to him and held out her hand for a shake. "I'm River." When Lukas said his name, she asked, "So how long have you been in this town?"
I'm sorry it took me so long to reply. I don't have internet at my house right now. I'm on a bus on my way to see some family for the holidays with my dad, and it has internet so I figured I would come on. I'm staying at my sister's house and may not have time to reply for a little while. Sorry. Oh, and sorry for such a short post.

Lukas didn't shake her hand, although he did tell her his name when she asked.
"I've been in this town forever. I was born here." He shrugged. "I haven't been many other places..." He watched her carefully. "What about you?" He hadn't seen her around before, although that wasn't that much of a surprise, even if she lived here. He didn't go out very much, and recently he had become very antisocial.
Lukas also wanted to ask her why she had almost stabbed him, and why she hadn't ran off. If he wasn't a good person - if he was bad - he could have easily been lying. He could easily hurt her right now. But he wasn't bad. And he supposed that she trusted him. Could she tell he was telling the truth?

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I didn't have Internet for a while and when I did I couldn't stay on for a while. Also I am sorry for any typos that may occur, I am on my iPod and typing sometimes doesn't go so well.
"I have actually been here about a month or so, just wondering around, trying to get a feel ffor the town, find my way around. That sort of thing. So far, I don't know about it because during the day, it's a good place to be, but at night..." River replied, trailing off. "Well let's just say...I have seen thingsnhere that I have never seen before, and not nessessarily in a good way."

Lukas knew what she meant. Even if she didn't know about the vampires and werewolves, Lamdon was pretty scary at night time. Although, so were most places. Darkness did funny things to people.
He thought about it for a moment. What if what she had seen around here was werewolves and vampires? Did she realise what she was seeing, or was she just freaked out anyway?
"What kind of...things?" Lukas asked, attempting to sound merely curious, and failing. Most humans who lived here had gotten used to the strange things that happened in Lamdon - almost like they've been desensitised to it. Any new people who didn't come from Lamdon originally found the place stange.

River was a little reluctant to answer him, but figured he asked so why not indulge him. "Things from stories. Vampires, Werewolves. In fact, from what I've seen from the werewolves, you look like one yourself, to tell you the truth," she became extremely embarrassed that she said that, and hoping to cover it up, she said, "Okay, I shouldn't have said that probably. Too bad though, you probably think I belong in an asylum. It would be kind of cool but weird to have an actual friend who was a werewolf. I rather them over the bloodsuckers."

For a moment, Lukas was shocked, but then he just had to laugh. She did know about werewolves, and vampires, and she even thought that he was a werewolf!
And she was right, of course. He stopped laughing, and smiled at her.
"I didn't realise you knew about us. I thought you just thought that Lamdon was weird. River, I am a werewolf,"
She disliked vampires, then? Lukas wasn't sure what to think about this. On one hand, he had always hated vampires. On the other, he had begun thinking about it recently. He was in love with a vampire (who he may never even see again...) and he was sort of friends with another. I guess it's okay if humans hate them. I mean, vampires kill humans more often than werewolves do. He cringed at this thought. He knew a werewolf who had killed a human. It was worse for werewolves to kill humans, though; vampires weren't really humans at all, whilst werewolves were half.

She took a deep breath. And another. And another. "Wow...I didn't think I would have been right."
"So, one questions. Are the legends real that you have to change on a full moon, or does it really matter?" River wasn't trying to be a pest about it, she was just extremely curious.
Sorry for the short post, but I gotta go to bed.

Lukas shook his head slowly. "I don't think the full moon myth has anything to do with us whatsoever...we can just change whenever we feel like it," he smiled at her, sharper-than-average-human teeth showing, "I could transform right now if I wanted to."
He wasn't going to transform - it was tempting, just to show off, but he'd either freak her or some other random pedestrian out; not that anyone but themselves were on that street at that moment in time.
